Cold winters are not a marketing climate. LiFePO4 cells generally must not be charged below freezing. The BMS will refuse the wall, or it should. “Best for winter” here means: published discharge below 0°C, an honest charge floor at 0°C, and a plan to warm the pack indoors.

A cold-climate operating pattern that matches the manuals
- Keep the pack at 20–80% in the heated part of the home, not in an unheated garage. See storage.
- During an outage, you may discharge in a cold mudroom if the discharge spec allows it (AC180 to −20°C; Jackery v2 to −10°C).
- When the grid returns, move the pack inside until it is above the charge floor, then plug in. Do not sit it on the garage slab at −15°C and expect 1500 W AC input.
- Jackery sells an “Extreme Guard” heated bag for Explorer 2000 v2. That is an accessory with its own spec block (heating module 20 V / 1.5 A). It is not magic; it is a heater. We did not test it.
Solar in January
Short days, low sun angle, snow on the cells. A 400–500 W input rating is an upper bound, not a January forecast. Voltage windows still apply. If you need winter recharge without the grid, you are in hybrid-generator territory — gas inverter run outdoors, battery used indoors.
